Did BP ruin the Gulf of Mexico? Not according to a Politico article published yesterday. The only problem? The “article” was written by BP’s VP of Communications, Geoff Morrell. Both BP and Politico deny a “pay-for-play” arrangement, but the cozy relationship between Morrell and Politico’s Mike Allen has left observers wondering if the Washington rag is more advertising platform than newspaper.
As for ruining the Gulf of Mexico, no, I won’t say the Gulf is ruined. But if its demise is in the not too distant future, BP’s fingerprints will be all over the corpse. As bad, these dishonest PR episodes and the company’s refusal to pay legitimate economic loss claims associated with the spill, have inflicted a second disaster upon the people and businesses who rely on the Gulf.
